David Trick
A Former Bath, England, Barbarians & Irish Wolfhounds Rugby Union Winger.

David has the distinction of playing for England at every level, U16, U19, U21, England Students, England Universities, England ‘B’ and full International level, making his debut against Ireland at Lansdown Road in 1983 (England lost the match and successfully won the ‘Wooden Spoon’ that year).

As a former junior English schools sprint champion (100metres – 10.4 seconds) he decided to concentrate on rugby when he realised he much preferred the late night’s and beer associated with rugby at the time, rather than training and ‘orange squash’ which seemed to be the athletic regime.

He started playing for Bath Rugby club whilst still at school in 1979 and remained with the club until his retirement in 1991 during which time he played 247 matches and scored 171 tries. To be honest he did take 18 months away from the game during this period to go ‘walkabout’ in Australia, USA and South America, playing just one rugby match for the ‘Portland Pigs’ when he scored 76 points, thanked them for the game and moved on to Alaska to try his hand at salmon fishing.

‘Tricky’ was always considered a crowd pleaser; if he wasn’t entertaining them by scoring tries emanating from his own 22 metre line, he would often be found on the touchline talking to the crowd, invariably with his hands firmly stuck in the pockets of his shorts!

With regard to his international career, he played a total of 12 times for England and scored 11 tries. He was selected for two England tours Argentina 1981 & South Africa 1984.

He has spoken at numerous sporting dinners, conferences, corporate team building events, golf days, including The Long Lunch in Hong Kong, a function with a capacity 700 audience which launches the build up to the Hong Kong sevens (he is the only speaker ever to be invited back for a second appearance).

David has developed several speeches – from an extremely light hearted look at the world of sport and its characters, and for the corporate market, he is often asked to provide a motivational team building speech, which retains his innate sense of timing and humour and has been extremely well received.
