Alastair Campbell
Writer, Communicator and Strategist
As Tony Blair’s former right hand man, communications strategist and chief spokesman Alastair Campbell is one of a handful credited with creating New Labour and transforming the party’s political fortunes.
Although a contentious figure, Alastair’s influence and contribution is widely acknowledged as a founding stone of a team that transformed Britain’s political landscape. As with politics, business is all about passion, commitment, planning, teamwork and execution.
Drawing on his experience of ten years at the heart of government Alastair has a grand understanding of the cornerstones that pave the way to winning and hitting goals.
While still active in Labour politics, Campbell now splits his time between writing, charitable fundraising and campaigns. As Chairman of fund raising for Leukaemia Research he is focussed on seeking fifty donations of £50,000 for the charity’s fiftieth anniversary.
Having suffered severely with depression he has also won considerable praise from mental health charities for helping to break down the taboo surrounding mental health.
Sport meanwhile remains one of Alastair’s overriding passions. In his time he has been a newspaper sports editor, competed in countless marathons and triathlons, acted as Communications Director on Sir Clive Woodward’s 2005 Lions Tour and, last but not least, played football with Pele. A fanatical Burnley FC supporter he brings not only a fans perspective, but also an insight into the business of sport and the media surrounding it. On the speaking platform he clearly illustrates the lessons the boardroom can learn from the pressures of international sport.
Alastair is available for after dinner and conference speeches and areas of expertise include:
- Transformational leadership
- Strategic communication
- Building high performance teams
- Crisis management
- Stress management
- The business of sport
- Social responsibility
Whether on stage at a sizeable annual conference, or around the boardroom table with a select few, Alastair is a charismatic performer, who is authoritative and forthright with a vein of light-heartedness.

"It’s fair to say that Alastair was one of the best speakers we have heard from. He set out to carefully tailor his insights to a largely creative audience, and his anecdotes were told with the ease of a master storyteller. From first contact to the end of the question and answer session he was interested, engaged and hugely appreciated by the attendees." Charlie Mawer, Exec Creative Director, Red Bee Media
"Alastair spoke at a couple of events for Yorkshire Forward, with two very distinct briefs. On both occasions he judged the audience perfectly, and had a rare blend of genuine humour and serious strategic advice. The q and a sessions at the end of his presentation were also hugely memorable." Theresa Lindsay, Marketing and Business Development, Yorkshire Forward
"Love him or hate him, Alastair Campbell is a great conference speaker. It's not just that he has a fund of wonderful real life stories of encounters with the great and good, but his ability to get across his message with humour, self-deprecation and conviction makes him a great asset to any forum. We will certainly be inviting him again to our annual top level conference." Steve Norris, Former Tory Minister and Chairman of AMT-Sybex Group Ltd.
